It’s that time of year. People need presents. And you have not even started thinking about what to give. That’s okay, I’ve got you! Here are four suggestions for some key people on your list. I shared these tips on FOX-32’s “Good Day Chicago” on Dec. 9, so have a look!

Zardetto Brut Prosecco is the answer! Everyone loves the bubbles, especially this time of year. Zardetto is a historic producer of Prosecco. They were one of the first to launch in the U.S. back in 1984, and they remain one of the most popular brands today.
Zardetto Prosecco is bright and refreshing and it bursts with fresh citrus notes and stone fruit. This is a crowd-pleaser of a wine. Bonus: Prosecco is reliably on the lower-alcohol range, clocking in at about 11%.
Pro tip: the cool kids serve sparkling wine in a white wine glass, not a flute. I do, too. A stemmed white wine glass lets you appreciate the aromas of the wine much more than in a flute. Plus: flutes are a pain in the ass to wash! For an extra-special recipient, why not give this wine with a pair of pretty wine glasses? Find it in Chicago at Binny’s, or on wine.com anywhere. About $14-15. For more info, click here.
For the Friend

Garzón Albariño Reserva 2024 is sure to please. You probably know Garzón for their popular red wine – Tannat. But Uruguay is turning out some gorgeous white wines and this is one of them. Garzón has the largest Albariño vineyards in the Americas. I love this wine because it hits right between Sauv Blanc and Chardonnay. It has zippy acidity, a nice weight and round texture, and it’s busting with juicy orchard fruits. You may pick up just a hint of saline on this – that’s a hallmark of Albariño.
It’s great on its own or with cheeses, chips and salsa, fish and shellfish and more. It’s what you want to sip when you’re hanging out with your besties. Why not gift it to them – and hope they’ll share it with you? About $18. Find it at Binny’s in Chicago and on wine.com. Click here for more info.
For the In-Laws

La Bouche du Roi Pinot Noir 2023 This is a wine built to impress! Bouche du Roi translates to “mouth of the king” in French, and there’s a great story behind the name. Ten years ago, Adrien Pelissié, founder of La Bouche du Roi, revived long-dormant vineyards located on the plains of Versailles. (Yes, that Versailles; the royal palace of the King back in the 1600s.)
The original vineyards were planted in 1787, just before the French Revolution. Because there was no defined appellation in place, Pélissié and his team were able to plant the varietals they determined would thrive there. The range now includes Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Chenin Blanc. And they already are working toward getting a new AOC approved!
This is an exceptionally well-balanced Pinot Noir. On the nose, you get cherries and some dried violets. On the palate, it just goes for days … from cherries to fresh earth and some crunchy dried fall leaves. It goes with practically everything, from Boeuf Bourguignon to roast chicken, pork tenderloin, sausages and more. If you really want to wow the in-laws, give this with a creamy French Camembert or saucisson.
With its royal heritage, La Bouche du Roi is perfect for the in-laws. I mean, if wine from Versailles was good enough for the King, it’s good enough for the in-laws, right? Click here for more info.
Find La Bouche du Roi wines at select Binny’s stores and Hinsdale Wine Shop for about $50 per bottle.
For the Boss

Zenato Amarone Classico della Valpolicella 2017 This prestigious Italian red wine is celebrated for its rich, complex and concentrated flavors. Amarone is famously made from grapes that are air-dried for several months after picking and before fermentation. This process brings bold flavor and texture to the wine.
The Zenato family uses Corvina, Rondinella and Oesleta grapes in this Amarone from the Valpolicella region. Their 60 years of winemaking expertise is noticeable in the depth and balance of this wine. It has a velvety texture and dark fruit notes layered with baking spices. I recommend pairing this with brisket or prime rib or a rich Bolognese sauce. Yum!
This wine promises to leave a memorable impression on any boss who receives it as a gift. And who knows … maybe the impression will linger when promotion time comes around! It’s around $70. Find it at Binny’s in Chicago and on wine.com. For more info, click here.
Happy holidays and happy shopping!
